On October 26, 2026, Re-Elect Paul Van Meerbergen
A Lively Democracy Leads to Prosperity

Westmount has been my home for 40 years. It’s where my wife and I raised our family, and it’s the community I’m proud to represent.
I’m asking for your support to continue working on the issues that matter to Ward 10: improving our roads, making housing more affordable, addressing homelessness, and supporting community safety.
Paul’s Platform Priorities:
- Reducing traffic congestion
- Making housing more affordable
- Addressing homelessness
- Supporting community safety

Reducing Traffic Congestion
Traffic congestion affects our daily lives—from getting to work to travelling across the city. I have continued pushing for road improvements in Ward 10, including the widening of Southdale Road from Wharncliffe Road to Farnham Road.
My work has also included supporting resurfacing and traffic improvements on roads throughout our neighbourhoods, including Barclay Road, Woodcrest Boulevard, McMaster Court, Belmont Drive, and Viscount Road.
Looking ahead, I will continue advocating for further widening of Southdale and Bostwick roads, and for widening Wonderland Road between Southdale and Sarnia roads.
Road maintenance and traffic safety must remain priorities. That includes investing in our existing roads and supporting measures that help people cross and travel safely through our neighbourhoods.

Making Housing More Affordable
Housing costs remain a concern for people trying to buy their first home, growing families, and residents planning their next move.
City Council has a role to play in helping more homes get built. I support reducing unnecessary red tape and planning delays that add time and cost to housing construction.
Development charges also affect the price buyers pay. Municipal infrastructure needs to be funded, but new home buyers should not carry so much of that burden.
My focus is on practical steps the city can take to support housing supply and reduce the costs passed on to purchasers.

Addressing Homelessness
Homelessness requires a response that looks beyond temporary accommodation and addresses the deeper problems people face, including addiction.
I have concerns about the city’s approach to housing hubs and temporary housing developments. We need to examine whether these initiatives are addressing the underlying issues and how they affect surrounding neighbourhoods.
I believe the provincial government must take greater responsibility for this issue. I will continue pressing for that involvement and scrutinizing the city’s decisions.

Supporting Community Safety
People deserve to feel safe in their homes, parks, and neighbourhoods.
I support providing police with the resources they need to investigate crime, respond to calls, and maintain a visible presence in our community.
Sustaining police funding remains a priority for me, alongside careful oversight of costs and responsible use of taxpayer dollars.
My Record on Council
Representing Ward 10 means making decisions about neighbourhood safety, city services, and how public money is spent.
During my time on Council, I have:
- Lowest spending member of council
- Voted against a 40% increase in councillors’ wages.
- Voted against E-Scooter road use in London
- Moved a successful motion to bring forward the installation of flashing crosswalk lights at Viscount Road and Steeplechase Drive by one year, improving safety for children travelling to Sherwood Fox School.
- Voted against Bus Rapid Transit and the related property expropriations along Wellington South.
- Supported reductions in city spending.
- Supported transferring the budget surplus toward debt reduction.
I will continue questioning spending and advocating for investment in essential services.
